10-Day South Africa Hiking Journey Full Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1 – Arrival in Cape Town & Welcome Dinner Arrive at Cape Town International Airport, where you’ll be met by your guide. Transfer to your hotel and settle in after your journey. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at one of Cape Town’s renowned restaurants, introducing you to South Africa’s culinary delights. Overnight: Cape Town
Day 6 – Robberg Nature Reserve, Plettenberg Bay Travel to Plettenberg Bay for the Robberg Peninsula Hike. This circular trail showcases rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and turquoise waters teeming with seals. Along the way, enjoy endless ocean vistas and fascinating geology.
Stats: Distance – 9 km | Duration – 4–5 hrs | Difficulty – Moderate to Strenuous Overnight: Plettenberg Bay
Day 2 – Platterklip Gorge – Table Mountain Hike Platteklip Gorge to Upper Cable Station (Table Mountain Front Face) We begin directly beneath the towering cliffs of Table Mountain’s front face. The trail follows the line of the Platteklip Gorge, the most direct route to the summit. The path is steep and steady, weaving up stone steps through the dramatic gorge with the cliffs rising high on either side. Views open up over Cape Town, Table Bay, and Robben Island in the distance, rewarding us as we gain height.
Platteklip Gorge offers a classic and efficient ascent of Table Mountain. Once we emerge onto the Summit Plateau, the landscape opens up and we traverse across to the Upper Cable Station. From here, we enjoy panoramic views across the Cape Peninsula before descending via the cable car.
• Distance: 5.5 km (3.5 miles) • Duration: 3–4 hrs Elevation Gain: 760 m (2,500 feet) • Difficulty: Strenuous (steep, direct ascent; no scrambling required) • Descent: Via Cable Car to Lower Cable Station on Tafelberg Road. • Lunch: Packed lunch
After the Hike: Robben Island Boat trip – The Robben Island tour (from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront) usually takes about 4 hours in total, including the ferry rides.
• Ferry ride: 30–45 minutes each way (depending on sea conditions).
• On the island: Around 2.5 hours. This includes a bus tour around the island, a visit to the maximum-security prison, and a guided walk (often with a former political prisoner as the guide).
Day 7 – Tsitsikamma National Park & Storms River Depart for Tsitsikamma, hiking the Mouth Trail to the Storms River suspension bridge. This coastal walk passes through indigenous forest and offers dramatic views of the river mouth and pounding surf. For the adventurous, add the Waterfall Trail, a section of the famous Otter Trail. Ending up at your Exclusive Safari Experience for 3 nights. Overnight: Sidbury
Day 8 – Safari Experience Transfer to you in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, specifically in Sidbury, near Paterson and adjacent to Shamwari Game Reserve. for an exclusive-use luxury safari lodge experience. Settle in and enjoy your first afternoon game drive. Overnight: Sidbury
Day 9 – Safari Experience Morning and afternoon game drives with expert guides, tracking the Big Five and other iconic African wildlife. Relax in between drives with lodge amenities. Overnight: Sidbury
Day 10 – Departure Enjoy a final morning game drive before transferring to Port Elizabeth Airport for your internal flight to Johannesburg, connecting to your international departure in the late afternoon evening flight
Day 3 – Cape Point Morning: Cape of Good Hope Trail – Starting at Cape Point, we ascend to the Old Lighthouse for commanding views, then follow the coastal trail above Dias Beach to reach the iconic Cape of Good Hope signboard. Along the way, enjoy dramatic coastal scenery, rich history, and possible wildlife sightings. Stats: Distance – 2.5 km | Duration – 2 hrs | Elevation Gain – 150m | Difficulty – Moderate
Visit to Boulders Beach Penguin Colony in Simon’s Town.
Day 4 – Winelands Hiking & Wine Tasting Uitkyk Hike (Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve) – Starting from the top of Franschhoek Pass, we climb steadily through fynbos to Uitkyk viewpoint, with sweeping scenes over the Wemmershoek Valley. We include a detour onto the Vista Trail for even grander views of Franschhoek. Stats: Distance – 8 km | Duration – 4 hrs | Elevation Gain – 500m | Difficulty – Moderate post-hike, enjoy lunch and wine tasting in Franschhoek, followed by a scenic drive through Stellenbosch. Overnight: Stellenbosch
Day 5 – Cape Town to Mossel Bay & Coastal Hike Early departure for Mossel Bay, a scenic drive along the start of the Garden Route. On arrival, enjoy a relaxed one-hour walk along a short stretch of the St. Blaize Trail. This gentle path follows the cliffs above the Indian Ocean, with plenty of time to take in the sweeping views and look out for dolphins and seabirds. Afterward, settle in for a laid-back lunch in Mossel Bay before continuing along the Garden Route at an easy pace, with the rest of the day spent leisurely enjoying the journey to Plettenberg Bay. Stats: Distance – 2–3 km | Duration – 1 hr | Difficulty – Easy Overnight: Plettenberg Bay
